the-writer2Of course I’m using the term “famous” loosely. Wait, that’s not right. Incorrectly, I’m using the term incorrectly.

One piece of advice you hear offered up to aspiring writers is to write everyday no matter what. The problem with that for me is that I rarely feel compelled to write unless I know it’s going to be read by someone.

I’ve tried over and over to keep some sort of daily diary throughout the years. The result is that my life is littered with a trail of mostly blank journals and notebooks.

Luckily with the advent of blogging writing for an audience is a relatively simple process. The problem is finding a topic and sticking to it.

If you’re looking to not only write for an audience and be successful at it, at least in blogging, finding a niche topic is almost mandatory. Choosing one subject that you are knowledgeable and passionate about and owning it greatly increases your chances of success.

I know how to create a successful blog, I’ve done it before. The issue I’m having now is that I’m posting about such a wide variety of topics that it’s difficult for me to get a handle on the focus of the blog.

I can only imagine what it’s like for a reader that stumbles upon the sight. They must think they’ve stumbled upon the ramblings of sleep deprived troupe of monkeys trapped in an opium den with nothing but a laptop and internet access.

If you’re a blogger how did you decide what your blog would be about and how often would you say that you stray off-topic?
