The New York Daily News is reporting that according to people close to the investigation, Major League Baseball is offering A-Rod a deal that would suspend him for the rest of this season and all of next season. If he rejects the deal however, MLB would likely be seeking a lifetime ban.
A-Rod has officially become the most disgraced player in team sports history. Nobody on the planet likes this guy and now he’s ubiquitously known as a cheater. This deal that’s on the table is similar the deal that Ryan Braun already accepted earlier this month where he was suspended for the rest of this season.
Reportedly MLB has “twice the amount” of information on A-Rod that they did on Braun. Even so, I don’t think anyone really expects A-Rod to take any sort of deal. If he did take the suspension he would still be eligible for about $60 million on his contract. The problem is that he’s currently owed $100 million so, in effect, he would be walking away from $40 million.
An official announcement could come as early as this Monday evening or Tuesday morning. As a Yankees fan I personally loathe A-Rod and can’t wait for the announcement to be made. The only thing that infuriates me is that if he does appeal the suspension that he’ll be allowed to keep playing until the appeal takes place which probably wouldn’t be until the season was over. That being said, I do think that if Major League Baseball has enough evidence to give him a lifetime suspension they shouldn’t even be offering him a deal. Just get rid of him already.
