This summer jam from a band that you’ve no doubt never heard of called Day Above Ground posted this video of their song “Asian Girlz” on YouTube. Initially the song received so much backlash that they took it down. But I guess there’s no such thing as bad press. They reposted it with this “disclaimer”.
Our song “Asian Girlz” was not written with any malicious, hateful, or hurtful intent. We know it is racy and does push the boundaries further than other songs out there. Understand that we do not promote or support racism or violence. We love everyone no matter what race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Listening to the song is painful because not only is it not funny, it’s not very good either. It’s a well produced video so it’s obvious that it wasn’t cheap to make but whoever thought it was a good idea to release it must have the worst sense of judgement ever.
The model in the video is Levy Tran and her last three tweets are apologizing for the reaction she’s gotten from the video.
I sincerely apologize to all who feels that I set Asian women back 50 yrs. I know I lost respect from a lot of ppl. It wasn't my intention

I'm so sorry once again to anyone who was offended by the video. It wasn't at all the intention. I truly apologize

It is hard to imagine that an Asian woman would listen to this song and think it was a good idea to be in the video but it’s still hard to not feel a little sorry for her. She’s just a model looking for work and then this came her way.
What do you think, lighthearted and satirical or just plain racist?
