Slothed has only been around for about six months and it’s mostly been a labor of love. I spend a lot of time working on the site whether it’s finding and/or writing content or whether it’s behind the scenes stuff to make the reader experience better or even tinkering with the design to a great new look (IMO).
The absolute best thing about putting in all this time and effort on this site so far is seeing people take the time to “like” a post they find entertaining/interesting. Or even better, taking the time to leave a comment and make this a truly interactive community of incredibly informed people that always manage to enhance the content with their comments. Or whether it’s the readers who take the time to use the email@example.com to send in news tips and comments in general.
One reader in particular though whom we will call Dave, because that’s his name, has gone above and beyond and stood up for this site and defended it against censorship.
A few weeks ago I got an email from Dave telling me that for some reason Slothed had been blacklisted by his job’s IT department. It smacked of censorship and Dave took this as a personal challenge. He emailed his IT department, he emailed the filtering company that handles the blocking of sites and pressed them for answers about why the site had suddenly been blacklisted.
Dave sent me an email tonight saying that he had gotten Slothed whitelisted again and that it was no longer being blocked. Why did he do it? Dave had a fantastic line in his email that I really hope he doesn’t mind that I republish here. “They just don’t like being confronted but sit back passively and allow things like this to happen is not one of my ways of dealing with life,” is how Dave closed his good news email.
Well, thank you so much Dave and thank you so much to the thousands of people that have started following the site and for the hundreds of people that take the time to like and comment (and hopefully share!) on posts. You guys are what makes this site kick ass.
I have a lot of big plans for growing Slothed. My hope is that by the end of the year I will be able to hire at least one new writer to join the team and help continue to provide a clear, bullshit free view on a wide variety of topics. If you have any articles you would like to submit or write a guest post or volunteer to actually make a useful Facebook page to make it easier for people to share stories they like just let me know.
In the meantime just keep being a part of this amazing, growing community. Like the Slothed Facebook page that I totally neglect if you’d like. And just keep spreading the word and coming back as often as possible. As always, if you have any comments, criticisms, advice or bullshit in general head over to the contact page and vomit your ideas through the interwebs’ pipes to me.
Thank you readers,
