Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) was shocked, SHOCKED, when someone suggested that she defer her $174k/yr (plus benefits) salary while the government was, you know, shutdown. She needs her paycheck, unlike those other non-essential jerks she helped furlough.
“I need my paycheck. That’s the bottom line,” Rep. Ellmers told ABC affiliate WTVD. “I understand that there may be some other members who are deferring their paychecks, and I think that’s admirable. I’m not in that position.”
Ellmers was an RN until 2011 when she took office and her husband is a surgeon with his own private practice. God, they must be really hurting, we should all pray for them.
Well it didn’t take much of a backlash before Ellmers completely reversed her decision and completely contradicted herself on her previous stance of keeping her paycheck.
In the statement she’s just released she claims that she’s only just been informed that she’ll continue to get paid and asks the House Chief Administrative Officer to begin withholding her pay during the shutdown.
