A couple of hours ago reddit user myniga562 posted a thread announcing that he had bought as much pizza as he could buy with 50k Dogecoins (which turns out to be nine Domino’s pizzas) and donated them to his local homeless shelter. He posted this photo of himself and the pizzas at the shelter. He purchased the pizzas through treats.io which specializes in letting you buy crap online using digital currencies, like Dogecoin.
myniga562’s original comment in which kicked things off:
Hey everyone, this was a test run and it worked great!
I used moolah’s https://treats.io/ so this was 100% dogecoin and 0% fiat.
In total I was able to purchase 9 medium pizzas.
My goal now is hopefully to gather some donations so I can eventually donate 100 pizzas. Once I have enough maybe I can contact some news reporter and tell them whats going on. Hopefully you guys can help me out here! ANY tip you throw at me will be turned into pizza’s.
Well this started a whose philanthropy dick is bigger pissing contest and as of right now myniga562 has had people send him 2 million Dogecoins to buy more pizza for the shelter. He’s already spoken to the shelter and they have told him that 50 pizzas should be enough to feed everyone at the shelter, which is the number of pizzas he will be donating tomorrow. User moolah_, who is the lead creator of Moolah.ch (think PayPal for virtual currencies), donated 1.7 million of those Dogecoins himself.
Then, to top it all off, user noneo, who represents treats.io, chimed in and is offering to give the pizzas at cost the next time they order them since they know they’re going to be donated to a homeless shelter and they want to get in on the giving back.
I’m not that great at math but if 50k Dogecoins originally bought 8 pizzas and now they have 2 million Dogecoins and are getting the pizzas at cost and we know it takes about 50 pizzas to feed the entire homeless shelter for a night…that’s like 14 years worth of pizzas right there (please double-check my math, it may be off.)
So, if you have any Dogecoins burning a hole in your virtual wallet and you want to chip in and help feed a few homeless people here’s where you can do it.
