Netflix raised the bar earlier today when they announced on their blog that, as of now, the company will be offering unlimited maternity and paternity leave for the first year after the child’s birth or adoption.
The company will continue paying the employees normally which eliminates the need to and hassle of having to switch to disability leave. The employee can return to work whenever they’re ready either in full-time or part-time capacity depending on their needs.
There are countless studies out there that show that the attachments that infants make in the first years of their lives will have a powerful impact on what kind of person they will develop into. Netflix’s new plan allows the fathers and the mothers to have an equal opportunity to bond with their newborn child.
Netflix has always taken an aggressively liberal view on how they treat their employees. It was already Netflix’s policy that employees had unlimited time-off/vacation days to work with. Netflix believes people perform better at work when they’re not worrying about home.
“This new policy, combined with our unlimited time off, allows employees to be supported during the changes in their lives and return to work more focused and dedicated,” said Tawni Cranz, Netflix’s Chief Talent Officer.
